Headin’ Down The Highway

Daily writing prompt
You’re going on a cross-country trip. Airplane, train, bus, car, or bike?

I’ve driven almost across the entire country -same with flying and taking a train.

Flying – you miss everything except the broad picture. Sure, the scenery is nice from 30k feet, but it’s also sterile. There’s no other experience that comes with it… unless your plane crashes, but that’s a different type of experience.

Bus – Miserable if we’re talking commercial bus. They’re not exactly spacious and the bus terminals are rarely in high rent district. The one here would not be advisable to leave after the sun goes down. Sure, you could see some nice countryside, but so could the person sitting in your personal space and/or looking over you through the window.

Train – Sure, if you can stay on it long enough. I tried this once and it was great for the short time I got to be on the train itself. The other downside is the fact that the areas train tracks go through have become homesteads for the homeless -which means obscene amounts of trash, debris, and graffiti.

Car – A car is ok, but if you’re driving, you spent more time focused on the construction zones and the traffic. It’s tiring and not overly enjoyable.

Bike – As in motorcycle is the only way to do a cross-country trip. You’re not as much in a rush to get anywhere. You can enjoy the backroads and the smells that often come with being out in nature (although not all smells are positive moments). It’s as close to exploring like in the old west days as you could get without using an actual horse -which would be no way to do that in today’s times.
