If I won the lottery, the first thing I’d do would be to open animal based cafés around college campuses. I’d partner with local shelters and fill my locations with adoption-ready animals. The cafés would be nonprofits with all proceeds going to help support shelters and various types of mental health offerings to college kids and/or anyone else who needed mental health support.
Staff would be paid well. Internships would also be considered. The cafés would be large with plenty of space for the animals to run around, hide, and play. If an animal never got adopted, it could live at the café comfortably with a high quality of life until it crossed over.
We could have a celebration wall for adoptions and memorial wall for pets who crossed over.
Beyond this, I have additional ideas, but who knows… It would be a start and we could certainly use more self-help mental health services. Drugs and therapists only take us so far.
We have so many strays here and no shelters at all. It is heartbreaking. The private vets charge so much just for consultation and no one cares that there are no animal shelters.
