Experiencing a repetitive dream is somewhat common for me while a dream within a dream is rare. But this?
… A few weeks ago was an entirely different level. Not only was it a previously experienced lifelike dream, the dream adapted itself from the last time I had it. It was so real that while in the middle of the dream I questioned the reality of the previous dream about the same situation, but not questioning whether or not I was already in a dream to begin with.
Confused? Not surprised. I’ll explain. The initial version of the dream went as follows:
I made my way into a police armory and commandeered a variety of pew-pews, ammo, and magazine clips. It was a playground of assault weaponry all stored right there together. The crown jewel being the mini gun stored at the back of the room.
My intentions were never clear. All I know was that I ninja’d through the building for the purpose of preparing for armed combat. The po-po eventually discovered me and I had to purposely wound my pursuers in order to get away. I escaped, but eventually surrendered before someone got seriously hurt. For whatever reason they allowed me to go home after all of the weaponry was accounted for.
I had long forgotten that dream until the following sequence manifested during a recent slumber.
The dream I shared above initialized exactly as before. When I “woke up” into the dream, I realized I was once again preparing to invade the armory. The situation had yet to materialize a plot; that’s just what was happening for the second time.
Or so I thought…
During this dream, I recalled being in the exact same position once before (But I remembered it as if it was reality, not a previous dream) I laughed at the fact I had done this once before and how easy it was going to be. Follow the previous route. Pirate the booty, but this time, I’d get away.
I made my way through the facility without drawing attention and once again, I entered the armory undetected. Imagine my surprise when the weapons I had previously appropriated were all exactly where I remembered them; however, there was no ammunition to be found… anywhere.
WTF? There were plenty of weapons and each one had ONE full clip, but that was it. Extra ammunition was nowhere to be found. In a panic, I threw as many rifles as I could carry over my shoulder and set out to find where their brass inventory was stored.
The moment I stepped out of the armory, everything went to hell. Although I had slipped inside without raising an alarm, they knew I was there and had been watching me the entire time -even laughing at my reaction to the ammo-less discovery.
Eventually I surrendered without incident. Once in custody, they explained that they had studied my previous infiltration and taken steps to monitor those areas with silent alarms as well as secure the ammo in a completely different area from where the weapons were in cased they missed something. In other words, access to anything more than what was loaded into each firearm was never going to happen.
Once the changes to the facility were made, the trap was set. They were confident I’d try again. We all laughed and again, they let me go.
I woke up a bit mystified. Never in all my life, has my subconscious set a trap for me inside a dream -inside my own mind? It hasn’t happened since, so I have no idea what to make of it.
Edgy. This would be similar to that Tom Cruise movie isn’t it? I watched a bit in the beginning.

Vanilla Sky? I’m not sure. It’s been a very long time since I watched that movie, but I do remember enjoying it.

Not Vanilla Sky, something Edge. It was this same recurring dream where he can change or control the ending if I’m not mistaken.
