In case you’re just tuning in or have missed an update, I’ll bring you up to speed on the shitshow this has been so far.
- Amtrak canceled my very first train segment due to “service disruption” so I had to find a way to Chicago in order to catch the 2nd segment.
- Two rental car attempts failed for various reasons, mostly dealing with lack of credit card.
- United flight to Chicago to catch the train was canceled due to airplane maintenance.
- United flight to Chicago delayed due to weather. Missed train.
- Flew to Chicago, then Denver, then Kalispell – More than 14 hours in air and airports. Had to Uber to rental since airport was in a different city than where I was staying.
- Amtrak from Whitefish to Spokane went ok.
- Amtrak from Spokane to Portland canceled due to “service disruption”
- Charter bus taken from Spokane to Portland
- Unable to locate checked bag. No one knew exactly where it was.
- Amtrak to LA was ok. Bag recovered in LA.
- Amtrak to San Antonio was canceled due to track wash-out. Booked flight to SA.
- Spirit flight to San Antonio was delayed over an hour due to paperwork issue.
- Airplane landed so hard in SA even the flight attendants were visibly and audibly shaken.
- There was a problem with the room I rented at the last minute, but it was resolved once I arrived at the hotel.
- Room is on the 13th floor. (I’m not superstitious, but I do find it funny)
I did this from memory, so there’s a chance I could be missing some of the delays or other travel-based issues I’ve encountered. It’s been hard to keep track of them.
